Michael Smith is a journalist and author with 25 years reporting experience covering Hong Kong, China and business in Australia and the United Kingdom. After an abrupt departure from Shanghai in September 2020, Michael wrote his first book, The Last Correspondent, Despatches from the Frontline of Xi's China, which was published in April, 2021. Michael moved to Tokyo In October, 2021, to continue covering China and the region in his new role as North Asia correspondent for The Australian Financial Review.

Melanie is Chair Emeritus of the Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan having completed over six years as Chair. She is also a member of the ‘Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee’ (AJBCC). Melanie was appointed as a non executive director to the board of Sega Sammy Holdings in June 2019. She writes the regular Australian Financial Review column, "Postcard from Tokyo".
