The Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan is delighted to welcome members and friends to attend A Fireside Chat with Michael Smith, Australian Financial Review North Asia Correspondent and ANZCCJ Chair Emeritus Melanie Brock, CEO of Melanie Brock Advisory.

Before his current position in Tokyo, Michael Smith gained 25 years reporting experience covering Hong Kong, China and business in Australia and the United Kingdom. After an abrupt departure from Shanghai in September 2020, Michael wrote his first book, "The Last Correspondent, Despatches from the Frontline of Xi's China​", which was published in April, 2021. Michael moved to Tokyo in October 2021 to continue covering regional economic and security issues in his new role as North Asia correspondent for The Australian Financial Review.

Melanie Brock is Chair Emeritus of the Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan having completed over six years as Chair. She is also a member of the 'Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee' (AJBCC), and writes the regular Australian Financial Review column, "Postcard from Tokyo​".
