For those in the Food and Beverage industry, there is a shared pang of regret felt when faced with the decision to throw away large amounts of food that could be put to better use. According to the Japanese Ministry of Environment, the estimated total amount of food loss and waste generated in Japan in FY 2018 was 25.31 million tons, of which approx. 6 million tons was edible. Japan aims to reduce the amount of edible food loss and waste generation to 4.89 million by FY 2030, with a number of government initiatives in place to bring this issue to the public's attention.
The ANZCCJ Food, Agriculture & Hospitality Committee and GourmetPro invite members and friends to join us at Hilton Tokyo on Thursday 26 May as we explore the food waste challenges faced in Japan and the opportunities to overcome them.
